Description
Trip Leader: Margot Bezrutczyk (margot.bezrutczyk@gmail.com), Lydia Bruno (lydia.e.bruno@gmail.com), Allison Henry, Travis Smith
Date: Saturday, September 14
Description: Join us for a leisurely, meditative bird walk around Glen Canyon, a hidden treasure of a park in San Francisco. This walk is part of the Bird Curious series– Bird Curious is for new birders. We aim to highlight the contemplative aspects of birding by listening and being present. Our purpose is to create community around birds and deepen our relationship with the natural world through shared education and discovery. Bird Curious walks will always be free but please register so we know you’re coming!
No binoculars? No problem! Fill out this form or email Margot (margot.bezrutczyk@gmail.com) and we’ll make sure to have a pair for you. If you have an extra pair of binoculars and you’re willing to bring them along to share, please do!
We expect the walk to take 1.5-2 hours, with approximately 100 ft elevation gain– the path mostly has stairs along the hilly sections, and there are a few benches scattered throughout the park. There are nice clean restrooms at the community center next to our meeting spot.
Fall migration will be near its peak, so expect the return of overwintering warblers and sparrows! For a list of birds we could potentially see on our walk, check out the ebird records for September at Glen Canyon Park here.
Trip Size: 40 participants max
Directions: Meet at the park entrance on Elk Street and Chenery Street.
Registration will open at 1 pm on Tuesday, August 20 and it will close at 11pm on Thursday, September 12.
