Description: Join us for a bike ride on the San Francisco Bay Trail along the San Pablo Bay shoreline north of Point Pinole Regional Park to look for a variety of waterfowl and a sprinkling of passerines, woodpeckers and raptors. This has a more manageable density of waterfowl and shorebirds to observe. And this stretch of shoreline is hillier than what East Bay shoreline birders are accustomed to. Total distance will be eight miles at a leisurely pace. Check out the eBird hotspot for Bayfront Park for a representative example of what we’ll be looking to see. https://ebird.org/hotspot/L794123. There will be bathrooms available along the route, including our meeting spot at Bayfront Park. Bring binoculars as most the birds we see will not be close up (the railroad tracks will be between us and the bay for much of the route.
Trip Size: 12 Participants Max
Directions: Directions Meet at the Bayfront Park parking lot off Tennent Avenue in Pinole. From I-80 take Exit 22 Pinole Valley Road west which after .3 miles becomes Tennent Avenue. Continue on Tennant Avenue another .8 mile to the Bayfront Park parking lot. If parking there is full, it should be easy to find a spot nearby on Tennant Avenue.
This event will open at 1pm on Tuesday, January 21 and close at 11pm on Thursday, January 30
