Flock Together Birding Meetup at Blue Heron Lake (San Francisco)

Please join us for a casual group birding meet-up at Blue Heron Lake and build community. We're calling it a "meet-up" because it will be less formal than a traditional guided field trip and the participants are encouraged to take an active role in creating their group birding experience.  This format allows us to welcome more participants to this larger-capacity event.

Due to the less-structured format, this meet-up may not be ideal for first-time birders. But, if you can distinguish your Steller's Jay from your California Scrub Jay, you should be perfect for this trip. Brand new birders or those looking for more instruction or a more curated experience are encouraged to sign up for other field trips or Bird Curious events that are capped at a smaller number of participants and will provide more support and instruction.

On the day of the meet-up, we will break into smaller groups and then do introductions to encourage the group members to get to know each other. While birding, everyone is encouraged to share questions, knowledge, and observations, while recognizing that we are all learners. Each group can choose from different routes, and we will meet back at 10:45 AM to debrief and share highlights and questions. After that, anyone who is still up for it is welcome to stick around and continue birding!

Accessibility: The groups will take different paths but please plan for about 1.5-2 miles of walking on paved and unpaved trails, which include some moderately steep slopes.  Restrooms and water fountains are available at the meeting point, and also behind the Blue Heron Lake boathouse.  Please email us if you have any questions or additional needs regarding accessibility.

Directions:  Meet at the restrooms near Mother's Meadow, at the intersection of 19th Ave and MLK Jr. Drive.

Registration for this event will open at 1pm on Tuesday July 15 and close at 11pm on Thursday August 14
