Special Event: California Biodiversity Day Trip: Bird Curious Bioblitz! @ North Lake (SF)
Description
Trip Facilitators: Lydia Bruno, Dan Scali, Alana Noel, Patrick Meeker, Travis Smith, birdcurious@goldengatebirds.org
Date: Sunday, September 7 – 9 to 11 a.m.
Description: To celebrate California Biodiversity Day we will be hosting a bioblitz at one of our favorite birding spots in Golden Gate Park.
What is a bioblitz, you ask?
A bioblitz is a communal effort to record as many species as possible within a set period of time at a designated location. This can include birds, plants (wild, not cultivated), mosses/lichens, fungi and insects.
We’ll create an iNaturalist project to add our observations and also keep an eBird list.
We’ll walk at most 1.5 miles. At the end, we’ll gather at the picnic tables at the northern end of the lake and discuss our findings.
More details will be provided to registrants the Monday before the event. Email birdcurious@goldengatebirds.org with any questions.
Accessibility: Most of the walk is flat on paved walkways. Benches are located along the path at intervals for resting if needed. Restrooms are located a short walk along JFK Dr. west of the meeting spot.
Trip Size: 20 participants max
Directions: Meet at the stairs/ramp at the southeast corner of North Lake on JFK Dr. Ample street parking available on JFK Dr. and easily accessible by transit via Fulton 5 and N Judah lines.
