Tennessee Valley (Marin County) Registration

11/22/2025 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT

Description

Date and Time: Saturday, November 22 – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Leader: Laurie Sample, laurieasample@gmail.com, 213-2589812

Description: This 1.7-mile out and back trail (3.4 miles total) leads from chaparral and eucalyptus groves through riparian scrub to a coastal lagoon and spectacular Pacific shoreline. These diverse landscapes offer multiple species of raptors, woodpeckers, wrens and finches, and possibly warblers including Common Yellowthroat. At the lagoon and beach areas, we'll look for shorebirds, waterfowl and seabirds, and we may even spot some harbor seals hanging out on the rocks. The trail is well-maintained with mostly gentle grades and minimal elevation gain on dirt and gravel surfaces, though towards the beach end the trail gets a little steep for a short stretch. Restrooms are available at the trailhead and partway along the route. Dress in layers for changing coastal conditions, and bring snacks and hydration.

Trip Size: 20 participants max

Directions: Tennessee Valley Trailhead, 591 Tennessee Valley Rd, Mill Valley. Take Highway 101 to the Highway 1/Stinson Beach exit, turn left (west) on Tennessee Valley Road and follow to the parking area at the end. If the trail is busy, you may have to park on the roadside and walk in.
