Mandarin Bilingual Field Trip: Fall Migration at Coyote Hills (Fremont)

Description: Join us for a bilingual trip co-hosted by the Golden Gate Bird Alliance and the Cedar Nature Society (www.cedarnature.org), an organization dedicated to connecting the Chinese-speaking community to nature through birding and conservation. Designed for both English and Mandarin speakers (with Cantonese support from select guides), this outing aims to share the joy of birding across our vibrant multicultural community!

Together, we will explore fall migration at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont, one of the Bay Area’s most ecologically diverse wetland and grassland reserves. We’ll look for migrating ducks and shorebirds such as Northern Pintails, Cinnamon Teals, and Greater Yellowlegs while keeping our eyes up for raptors such as Northern Harriers, and White-tailed Kites. We’ll also comb the grassland for wintering sparrows, Western Meadowlarks, and Say’s Phoebes. If we’re lucky, we may even get a glimpse of Fernando, the local Chilean Flamingo! 

We will be walking on paved or gravel trails on this trip with some hills. There is little to no shade so remember to bring sunscreen or a hat. Bathrooms are available at the parking lot and visitor center

Directions: From East Palo Alto, drive across the Dumbarton Bridge (CA-84 E), take exit 36 for Thornton Avenue toward Paseo Padre Pkwy. Use any lane to turn left onto Thornton Ave. Continue onto Paseo Padre Pkwy, travel 1.0 miles, Turn left onto Patterson Ranch Rd, travel another 1 mile, turn left into the bay trail parking lot. From 880-N, take exit 21 for Decoto Rd/CA-84 W toward Dumbarton Br. Continue to follow CA-84 W for 0.9 miles, take exit 37 for Ardenwood Blvd toward Newark Blvd, continue on Ardenwood Blvd for 0.6 miles, turn left onto Commerce Dr, continue onto Patterson Ranch Rd. Turn left into the bay trail parking lot in 1 mile. Take I-880 S to Deep Creek Rd in Fremont. Take exit 22 from I-880 S. Take I-880 S to Deep Creek Rd in Fremont. Take exit 22 from I-880 S. Turn right onto Paseo Padre Pkwy. Turn right onto Patterson Ranch Rd. Turn left into the bay trail parking lot in 1 mile.
