Savannah Sparrows at Heron's Head (San Francisco)
Description
Leader: Jenna Magee, (jennarae7@gmail.com)
Date: Sunday, September 27
Description: Savannah Sparrows need our help! Since the 1800’s the Bryant’s Savannah Sparrow’s habitat has largely disappeared. Today, they can be found in grasses beside Bay Area saltwater marshes. Join GGBA to go see these sparrows as well as our returning migratory shorebirds and waterfowl on this special summer field trip.
Each of our Savannah Sparrow field trips is in support of our Summer fundraiser. Adding a donation at checkout supports our free field trips and work to restore habitat for Savannah Sparrows among other birds.
Heron's Head Park is a unique place in San Francisco to see shorebirds, waterfowl and grassland birds who are returning to spend the winter with us. The park hosts large tidal marshes, shallow shores and native plant habitat which provide an excellent backdrop for finding some of our favorite bird neighbors, both on land and in the water. Beginner and experienced birders are all welcome and encouraged to attend - Heron's Head is a great environment to work together on our bird ID skills and is also a perfect location to practice photography, should that be one of your interests! Come and join us for a fun morning of birding by the Bay.
Attendee Limit: 20
Meet at the Heron's Head parking lot at 8am.
