Description:

Join Noreen Weeden and Eddie Bartley for a natural history filled jaunt to see one of the most dramatic stretches of coast anywhere. Devil’s Slide Trail in Pacifica is a 2.6-mile out-and-back walk along a former segment of Highway 1 that offers specialized flora such as Wight’s paintbrush, Coast Angelica and other wildflowers in a fascinating, tortured geologic setting.

Late March is also a wonderful time to see a diverse assemblage of birds!

We should encounter many maritime habitat divers such as sea ducks, grebes, alcids, and cormorants. Egg Rock hosts thousands of nesting Murres in the company of rocky shorebirds. Peregrine Falcons and Rock Wren nest in the steep cliffs. Residents include Wrentit, wrens and a large variety of sparrows.

Did someone say “migrants”? A large range of possibilities – join us and we’ll see what the winds brought in!

Distance: 2.6-mile out-and-back paved walk
Trail Type: wide paved trail with gradual elevation changes
Facilities: Vault Toilets
