Birding by Bikes and Ferries – Alameda to SF

04/09/2024 08:00 AM - 01:20 PM PT

Description

Trip Leader: Jeff Manker (fireweed8@gmail.com) and Derek Heins (dlheins@gmail.com)
Date: Tuesday, April 9
Description:
Love birding and alternate forms of transportation? So do we! After biking on streets and bike paths along the shores of Alameda and Bay Farm Islands, load your bike on the Ferry and cross the bay for lunch at the Ferry Building in SF before returning  to Alameda Seaplane Lagoon. All the while, we’ll be looking for seabirds, shorebirds, and ducks. We will bird the Seaplane Lagoon, The Alameda Point Shoreline, Crab Cove, Crown Memorial State Beach, Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary, San Leandro Bay, possibly Corica Park Golf Course (if the Bald Eagles have returned), the Bay Farm Lagoons, San Francisco Bay (from the Ferry) and the San Francisco waterfront from the ferry building.

Notes

Round Trip on the Ferry is $9.20 per person.
Lunch will likely be between $20 to $40 dollars (there are many choices at the Ferry Building).
If the ferries are running on time we will have from 11:40 am until 1:00 pm between our ferry rides. It will be important to be on time for both ferry rides. Anyone can of course stay later and return on their own schedule if they so choose but the next returning ferry is at 3:30 pm.

Trip Size: 10 participants max
Fee: $100

Accessibility: Distance: 8 miles by bike
Trail Type: flat paved
Facilities: Restroom on-site

Registration will open at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 28 and it will close at 11pm on Wednesday, April 3.
