Description: 
Looming more than 1,600 feet over farmland, the 1.6 million-year-old volcanic formations of the Sutter Buttes provide the largest contiguous habitat area in the Central Valley. Its blue oak savannah, woodland, and riparian corridors provide unique upland bird habitat. Birding on private ranchland, you’ll have opportunities to observe spring migrants and local specialties such as Western Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Yellow-billed Magpie, Canyon and Rock Wrens, Phainopepla, Lawrence’s Goldfinch, Lark Sparrow, and Bullock’s Oriole.

Notes: Everyone should carry their water, lunch, and any other gear they need with them on the hike as we will not return to the cars for lunch. There is a porta-potty at our hiking start point but no other formal facilities.

Distance: 3-4 miles over relatively flat terrain with a few hills that can be avoided

Registration will open at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 28 and it will close at 11pm on Monday, April 15.
