Coyote Hills Big Day

04/05/2025 07:00 AM - 04:00 PM PT

Description

Coyote Hills is the crown jewel of the East Bay Regional Parks - it’s the most ecologically diverse park along the shoreline with almost 300 species recorded since 1967. In an area less than four square miles there is a huge range of habitats including freshwater marsh; willow riparian; forests of live oak, buckeye, and pine; plowed fields; grassland; salt marsh; chaparral; salt ponds; coastal mudflats; open Bay. The result is that, on any given day, well over 75 species of birds can be found in the park, and sometimes over 100.

Join us for a Coyote Hills Big Day, where we try to find as many species as possible in one day at Coyote Hills - last year we got 92 species, with highlights including American Bittern, Blue-winged Teal, Lesser Yellowlegs, Great-tailed Grackle, and heard only Black Rail. You are welcome to come for a few hours in the morning and leave when you’ve had your fill, or stay the whole day to get as many birds as possible.

Registration opens at 1pm on Friday, February 28 and closes at 11pm on Thursday, April 3.
