Sutter Buttes
Description
Looming more than 1,600 feet over surrounding farmland, the 1.6 million year old volcanic formations of the Sutter Buttes provide the largest contiguous habitat area in the Central Valley. Its blue oak savannah, woodland, and riparian corridors provide unique upland bird habitat in the valley. Birding on private ranchland, you’ll have opportunities to observe spring migrants and seek out local specialties such as Western Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Yellow-billed Magpie, Canyon and Rock Wrens, Phainopepla, Lawrence’s Goldfinch, Lark Sparrow, and Bullock’s Oriole.
Hikers are encouraged to wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. Hiking sticks are always a good idea. Hikers should be prepared for any type of weather. Everyone should carry their water, lunch, and any other gear they need with them on the hike as we will not return to the cars for lunch.
Registration opens at 1pm on Friday, February 28 and closes at 11pm on Thursday, April 24. Date/Time: Sunday, April 27 — 7am to 3pm Accesibility
