Looming more than 1,600 feet over farmland, the 1.6 million year old volcanic formations of the Sutter Buttes provide the largest contiguous habitat in the Central Valley. Birding on private ranchland, you’ll find spring migrants and local specialties such as Yellow-billed Magpie, Canyon and Rock Wrens, Phainopepla, Lawrence’s Goldfinch, and Lark Sparrow.

Distance: 3-4 miles
Trail Type: Relatively flat terrain with a couple hill options that can be avoided if need be. Hikers are encouraged to wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. Hiking sticks are always a good idea. Hikers should be prepared for any type of weather. Everyone should carry their water, lunch, and any other gear they need with them on the hike as we will not return to the cars for lunch

Facilities: Porta-potty at our hiking start point but no other formal facilities.
Registration opens Saturday February 28th at 1 pm and closes on Sunday April 12th at 11 pm.
