Description: It's the holiday season and you might need a break from all of the cheer. Get away from it all by joining us for a winter bird walk in Tilden Botanic Garden featuring: chaparral currant blooms, snowberries, berries on madrones and toyon, acorns on oaks and the fall colors of cottonwoods, dogwoods, grape, maples, ash hawthorn and willow.  We’ll be looking for the over-wintering birds: Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrush, Fox, Golden and White-crowned Sparrow, Red-breasted Sapsuckers and Varied Thrush plus any garden residence and vagrants that may be passing through.

Regional Parks Botanic Garden presents California's native plants in ten geographic sections that represent the state's diverse flora. The 10 acre garden was opened in 1940, a result of a Works Progress Administration project. It houses the world's most diverse collection of manzanitas and the largest cultivated plant collection from the Sierra Nevada. The garden grows representatives of more than 400 federal, state or California Native Plant Society listed rare, threatened or endangered plant species. A botanical docent will accompany the bird walk.

Enjoy winter in the garden. Leaves are falling for easier bird viewing. The dirt and gravel trails go up and down-hill and are well maintained. Restrooms are in the parking lot. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Scopes are also welcome. We will bird for approximately two-and-a-half hours.
We meet at 9am in the Tilden Botanical Garden front gate.

Directions: We will meet at the front gate of the Regional Parks Botanic Garden at the intersection of Wildcat Canyon Rd and South Park Dr., Berkeley (1550 Wildcat Canyon Rd, Berkeley,) at 9am. Free parking is available across the street from the garden.
