05/11/2024 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM PT

Description

Trip Leader: Cathy Bleier,  510-414-5719 and csbleier@sbcglobal.net
Date: Saturday, May 11
Description: Spring has sprung, so we will walk a relatively flat 2 miles round trip, up the Abrigo Trail to Maud Whalen campground through oak woodland and savannah, hoping to see Bullock’s Orioles, Lazuli Bunting, Western Kingbird, Lark Sparrow, nesting Barn Swallows and maybe others, along with resident woodland woodpeckers, raptor and passerine species.
There are no benches along the way, though there are picnic tables at the campground (assuming it is not reserved for overnight, which it currently is not).   Restrooms are available at the start and at the campground.   Bring binoculars, water and hat, and snacks if you wish.  Rain cancels.   Check eBird list at https://ebird.org/barchart?r=L803636&yr=all&m=.
Trip Size: 20 participants max
Directions: Enter the park at the Bear Creek Staging Area entrance off Bear Creek Rd, north of Happy Valley Rd.  We’ll meet at the parking lot near Abrigo Trail.   Drive past the entrance kiosk (entrance fee may apply) and make the first left into the parking lot.    NOTE: WILDCAT CANYON ROAD IS STILL CLOSED FROM INSPIRATION POINT TO SAN PABLO DAM ROAD.
