Date: Thursday, October 24
Description: This field trip is in celebration of Birdability Week, an annual event launched by Birdability, a nonprofit organization working to ensure the birding community and the outdoors are welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for everybody. This field trip is wheelchair accessible and geared towards people with mobility disabilities and other limitations who want a slower birding experience.
Finally, summer has drawn to a close and we are in the midst of Dawn’s favorite season. Let’s get out on the marsh to greet our returning winter visitors. We’ve timed to trip to also get excellent views of Ridgway’s Rail.
We will be on level wheelchair accessible terrain and there are benches but expect lots of stationary observing, less than half a mile of traveling on paved, level trails. Please bring a portable chair if you have concerns. There is wheelchair accessible parking and bathrooms.
Bring binoculars, water and a hat. We will have a few spare pairs of binoculars with us.
Trip Size: 20 participants max
Directions: The entrance to the MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline is at Doolittle Dr. and Swan Way in Oakland. To reach the marsh, enter the park on Swan Way (very near Doolittle Dr.) and drive all the way to the end of the road (~.8 mi.). This will be the 3rd parking lot, at the observation tower. Please carpool if that works for you.
This event will open at 1pm on Monday, September 16 and close at 11pm on Monday, October 21.
