Giving Tuesday Field Trip at Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary(Alameda)
Description

Date: Tuesday, December 3
Description: This Giving Tuesday join Golden Gate Bird Alliance at Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary in Alameda for birding. This site was named after the late conservationist who helped ensure this marsh would be protected from development. On Giving Tuesday we want to honor her legacy. Come along and learn about the importance of marshes, and why we still need to do so much to protect the future of our shorelines.
Spotting scopes welcome and appreciated.
We’ll walk a short distance south along the edge of the sanctuary and continue a short distance into the marsh on city property. There will be great views of shorebirds, large and small, at close range. There is almost always a Black Oystercatcher or two.
There are benches on the viewing platform. Bring water and sun protection, as there is no shade. Restrooms and water available at the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Park Street, about .25 miles away. Except for our foray into the marsh, we are on aboardwalk and paved paths.
This event is in support of Giving Tuesday. All registrations are considered tax-deductible donations.
Trip Size: 20 participants max
Directions: Viewing platform near the corner of Shoreline Drive and Broadway in Alameda. AC Transit bus line 21 from the Fruitvale BART comes the closest, at Otis and Broadway. It’s about a ¼ mile walk.
For those who arrive by car, parking on Broadway and streets off Broadway is the best bet.
This event will open at 1pm on Friday, November 1 and close at 11pm on Monday, December 2.
