Breeding Birds of the Bay Area
Description
Instructors: Liz Lewis (elewis227@gmail.com) and Kenneth Hillan (khillan@goldengatebirds.org)
Description: Delve into the habits of Bay Area breeding birds in this class. Explore the diverse strategies birds use to attract mates and raise their young. Learn about the habitat needs of our breeding birds and how their distribution is changing. The class covers ethical birding practices, conservation challenges, and recent efforts to protect breeding birds. Learn about citizen science efforts to study the distribution of breeding birds such as the second Marin County Breeding Bird Atlas and similar efforts throughout the Bay Area. Through a combination of classes and hands-on field trips, you’ll deepen your understanding of Bay Area bird life and linger longer on that Bewick’s Wren singing in your neighborhood. Participants should be able to identify many of the common birds that breed in the Bay Area by sight and sound.
Recordings of the lecture presentations will be available to class participants for a limited amount of time.
