Date: Tuesday, April 1 -- 8:30 to 11 am

Description: Spring is here!  Come enjoy the flowers and leafing trees as they unfold in the garden. Birds are singing and preparing to nest. It's a transition period for bird species as summer residents return to stake out their territories while over-wintering birds are waiting for warmer days to return to their breeding grounds. Potentially this can be one of the most species rich times of the year in the garden. Help us explore to see who has returned from the south and who is still here waiting for snow to melt.

The Blake Garden is a public landscape laboratory. In 1957, the Blake Estate was deeded to the UC Berkeley’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. With many horticulture and native plants and 90+ documented bird species, the garden is a model for many sustainable practices such as composting, rainwater-catchment and apiculture. One of the gardeners will give a brief introduction and history of the Blake Garden. There are new art displays on exhibit from Landscape Architecture fall semester undergraduates.

Enjoy the transition between winter and spring in the Blake Garden. The trails are a mixture of paved, gravel, and dirt, and include both uphill and downhill sections, some steep, some slippery and some with steps and many without handrails. Restrooms and water fountains are present on the premises.  Please bring binoculars if you have them. Scopes are also welcome. We meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Rincon Rd. gate. We will bird for approximately two-and-a-half hours.

We are looking forward to seeing you in March!
