Description:

Meeker Slough is a hidden gem on the Richmond shoreline. This area and the adjoining South Richmond Marshes along the SF Bay Trail have a variety of habitats -- mudflats, tidal marshes, and open waters – so they attract an impressive variety of birds. Here’s a GGBA blog post about Meeker Slough: https://goldengatebirdalliance.org/blog-posts/meeker-slough/

This is a great place for beginner and seasoned birders, in addition to family packs with very young birders. On this trip, you can see large flocks of shorebirds, a variety of ducks, and, if lucky, a rare sighting of a Ridgway's Rail. Dressing in layers and wearing sunscreen is highly recommended as conditions can be windy, chilly, and sunny. Altogether you can expect to travel between 1-1.5 miles on even, paved surfaces accessible to wheelchairs.
The nearest public restroom is at Shimada Friendship Park at the end of Marina Bay Park, less than a mile away.

In the event of heavy/steady rain, this trip will be canceled and participants will be notified by email and/or text about rescheduling.

Trip Size: 12 Participants Max

Directions: Take Marina Bay Parkway towards the Bay and turn left at Bayside Way, the first turn after Regatta Blvd. We will meet at the trail entrance in the cul-de-sac at the end of Bayside Way, Carpooling is encouraged as there is limited parking, approximately 10 parking spots, at the trailhead.
