Bird Curious @ Buena Vista Park (San Francisco)
Description
Leaders: Jeanette Pettibone, Patricia Tsao, and Justin Roderman (email us at birdcurious@goldengatebirds.org with “Buena Vista Park” in the subject line)
Date: Sunday April 20 – 9 to 11 a.m.
Description: Join us for a field trip in San Francisco’s first city park reserved in 1867! We might see birds such as jays, woodpeckers, hawks, warblers, kinglets, sparrows, and more as we walk through some of the city’s native coast live oaks. If we’re lucky, we could see one of Buena Vista Park’s white-throated sparrows or varied thrushes.
This walk is part of the Bird Curious series, which aims to create a welcoming learning environment for new & budding birders while building community through shared exploration, education and discovery.
No binoculars? No problem! Fill out this form to check out a pair from Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s lending library. We will also have a few loaner pairs on hand, available on a first come, first serve basis. If you have an extra pair of binoculars and you’re willing to bring them along to share, please do!
NOTE that Buena Vista Park is quite hilly. We plan to stick to the wide, paved paths and prefer inclines to stairs.
For a list of birds we might see, check out the eBird records for past Aprils in Buena Vista Park.
Directions: We’ll meet at the entrance on Buena Vista Ave W and Waller St.
Both the 6 and 7 bus lines stop along Haight St close to this entrance. It's also not too far from the 24 bus on Divisadero, the 43 on Masonic, or the 33 on Ashbury. For those driving, you may want to leave extra time to find street parking along Buena Vista Ave and in the neighborhood.
