Bird Curious Beginners Field Trip @ Candlestick Park (San Francisco)

Date: Saturday May 31 –  9 to 11 a.m. 

Join us for an exploration of California’s first urban park and birding hotspot, Candlestick Point Recreation Area. For this field trip, we are specifically catering to brand new birders, so we ask that you only sign up if you’ve never been on a birding field trip before. This walk will be super beginner friendly and we will bring along a visual guide to help you learn to identify some common city birds! We’ll talk a little bit about habitats to help you start thinking about birds in their greater context and we’ll take our time with each species we see so that you can get to know each local friend a little better.  

This walk is part of the Bird Curious series, which aims to create a welcoming learning environment for new & budding birders while building community through shared exploration, education and discovery.

No binoculars? No problem! Fill out this form to check out a pair from Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s lending library. We will also have a few loaner pairs on hand, available on a first come, first served basis. If you have an extra pair of binoculars and you’re willing to bring them along to share, please do!

We expect the outing to be about 90 minutes, on mostly even, unpaved trails. There are restrooms near the meeting spot and throughout the park. Please email birdcurious@goldengatebirds.org with any questions. Include the location and date of the trip in the email subject line.  

Trip Size: 12 participants max

Directions: Meet at the picnic tables near the restrooms at the northern end of the parking lot, closer to the entrance. (google map) There is ample parking in a lot near the restrooms. We will send out a carpool sign up to those people attending the field trip.
