Description: Valle Vista is an EBMUD protected watershed near the town of Moraga. It offers a wonderful
combination of forest, open and aquatic habitats, which means we can hope to see a wide
variety of birds. Year-round species include the shy Wood Duck, Belted Kingfisher, Western
Bluebird, Brown Creeper, California Thrasher, nuthatches, woodpeckers, the American Kestrel
and a number of other raptors, including the occasional Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle. In
addition, in the winter as many as ten species of ducks and other waterfowl are possible, and in
the spring, a variety of song birds, including the Black-headed Grosbeak, many flycatchers such
as the Western Wood Pee-wee and Say’s Phoebe, several of the vireos, and six species of
swallows. We also may see deer, coyote, rabbits and feral pigs.

We will walk for one mile along Rimer Creek to a view of Upper San Leandro Reservoir, then return down the same route.
The walk is mostly level, but unpaved, with some gentle up and down. Parts of the trail can be muddy. It is probably not suitable for wheelchairs. There is a pit toilet in the parking lot, but there is no drinking water.

Trip Size: 12 Participants Max

Directions: Meet in the parking lot of the Valle Vista Staging area on Canyon Rd
