Pride Month GGBA Birding Outing at Albany Bulb (Albany)
Description
Leader: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, 510.484.6529
Date: Saturday – June 28 – 9 to 11 am
Description: GGBA’s Birding for Everyone Committee invites all who enjoy wild birds to celebrate Pride
Month with a bird outing at Albany Bulb at the end of Buchanan Street. Everyone is welcome
to this safe space for birders of all gender expressions to enjoy a morning along the shore.
Because the 2-hour parking limit in this area is rigorously enforced, the trip time is shorter than
our usual field trips.
June is a slower month for Bay Area birds, but there are a good number of species that nest
here. In this varied habitat with mudflats and upland scrub, we’re likely to observe 25 or 30
species and observe foraging behavior and parents feeding fledglings.
The paths are gravel or hard-packed dirt, mostly level with some gentle up and down.
There is no shade, so please bring sunscreen and sun-protective clothing, and plenty of drinking
water.
There is a large chemical toilet which is labeled as accessible for people using wheelchairs.
If you would like to use a pair of GGBA loaner binoculars, please let Maureen know by
Wednesday June 25.
Trip Size: 20 participants Max
Directions: Meet at the first observation platform along Buchanan west of I-80.
From I-80, go west on Buchanan towards Golden Gate Fields. Park just past the Albany
Waterfront Trail sign and look for us at the first observation platform.
