Description
Leaders: Rusty Scalf rscalf@sonic.net 520-495-5837 and Sam Zuckerman, samzuckerman@comcast.net
Date: August 24 – 8 a.m. to Noon or 1 p.m.
Description: Bring snacks, water and good walking shoes for this approximately 3 mile round trip hike. We will survey various habitats including coastal scrub, freshwater wetland, coastal dune, tidal lagoon and open ocean. At this date there is a lot of post breeding movement of terns, shorebirds and diving birds. We see Baird's Sandpiper on about half these outings; sometimes Snowy Plover, more often than not Red-necked Phalarope. We should be back to the parking lot by noon or 1 PM.
The trail is narrow and uneven, and we will be walking on sand when we get to the beach. There is a pit toilet at the parking lot but no water. There is no cell service at the parking lot. Dress in layers for foggy or hot and sunny weather!
Trip limit: 18 people max
Directions: Meet at the Abbotts Lagoon trailhead parking lot at 8 AM.
