Alvarado Camp, Wildcat Canyon Regional Park (Richmond)

09/27/2025 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM PT

Description

Trip Leader: Daniel Elting, delting1213@gmail.com

Date: Saturday September 27 – 9 to 11 a.m.

Description: Join Daniel Elting for a leisurely walk through the historic Alvarado Camp section of the Wildcat Canyon Regional Park in the East Richmond Heights. Sparse but mature coast live oaks and California bay laurels provide great viewing conditions for several species of passerines (perching birds), woodpeckers, and raptors. Near guaranteed sightings include resident Oak Titmouse, Nuttall's Woodpecker, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Dark-eyed Junco, and Anna's Hummingbird. Late September is high traffic season for south-traveling migrants and it’s anybody’s guess who may be passing through. Likely travelers may include Townsend’s Warbler, Hermit Thrush, and kinglets! Park benches and restrooms will be readily available and nearby for the duration of the trip route. Day-of-birding conditions will determine the exact route, but expect an approximately 2-mile loop with gentle slopes on paved roads and well maintained gravel trails. Not ADA recommended. See you there!

Trip Size: Trip will be capped at 12 attendees.

Directions: The trip will begin at the Alvarado Staging Area off Park Ave. which has abundant free public parking.
