Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, Oakland, Alameda County
Description
Leader: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, 510.484.6529
Date: Sunday September 21 – 2 to 5 p.m.
Description: An afternoon field trip, thanks to the tides. There is a high tide of almost 6 feet at 12:38 pm, which will be going out and exposing mudflat for shorebirds to feed. We will be walking about 2 miles, sometimes on level, paved paths, and sometimes on fairly hard-packed sandy areas. Bring lots of water, sunscreen, and hats. It can be cool and windy here, so a jacket that cuts the wind can allow you to concentrate on the birds. This location is rewarding for birders of all levels of experience. For more information about the park, please visit the Port of Oakland website: https://www.portofoakland.com/port/seaport/middle-harbor/
There are restrooms near the parking area and at the observation tower on the railroad mole. If you need to use a pair of Golden Gate Bird Alliance binoculars, please let Maureen know by Wednesday, September 17. Spotting scopes welcome and appreciated.
Trip Size: Limit of 20
Directions: Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, 2777 Middle Harbor Rd, Oakland. Meet near the mast of the USS Oakland.
