Accessible Birding at Arrowhead Marsh MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline, Alameda County

Description: Join GGBA for accessible birding at Arrowhead Marsh. 

This trip is wheelchair accessible and specifically for people with disabilities and other health or mobility issues.
Due to the timing of low tide, viewing can be fabulous because of exposed mudflats -- a smorgasbord for shorebirds and a good time to look for elusive rails, including the endangered Ridgway’s Rail.  Wintering ducks abound, including the teal trifecta (Green-winged, Cinnamon, and Blue-winged).

Expect lots of stationary observing, less than half a mile of traveling on paved, level trails.  There are some benches but bring a portable chair if you would find it helpful. 

For birders with any level of experience. Those new to birding are encouraged to join us.

Parking: There is ample parking including several van accessible disabled parking spots.

Restrooms: There are accessible restrooms, which are supposed to be open until 4 pm, but they often get locked earlier than the posted closing time.

What to Bring: Layered clothing, water, sunscreen, something to sit on if needed and binoculars. If you need to use a pair of GGBA loaner binoculars, please let Judy know by Wednesday November 12.

Trip will be cancelled if there is  heavy or steady rain. You’re welcome to call or text the leaders on Saturday morning if the weather is iffy.

From I-880, take Hegenberger towards the Oakland Airport.  Turn right at Pardee Road, left on Swan Way, and then a right turn into the park just past the warehouses. 
Continue to the large parking lot at the end.

Registration for this event will open at 1 pm on Tuesday,October 21, and close at 11 pm on Thursday, November 13.
