Arrowhead Marsh, Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline, Alameda County

11/29/2025 01:00 PM - 04:00 PM PT

Description

Leader: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, 510.484.6529

Date: Saturday, November 29 – 1 to 4 p.m

Description: Due to the time of low tide (1.17 feet at 1:37 pm)  viewing could be fabulous because of exposed mudflats -- a smorgasbord for shorebirds and a good time to look for elusive rails, including the endangered Ridgway’s Rail.  Wintering ducks abound, including the teal trifecta (Green-winged, Cinnamon, and Blue-winged).

The pathways are paved and level, but we need to watch out for the runners and bicyclists. The planned trail is less than .5 mile, but with a good deal of standing as we look at the marsh and the birds.

There are restrooms and water available at the parking lot for Arrowhead Marsh, which should be open at the start of our trip, but often close before the posted closing time of 4 pm.

If you need a pair of GGBA’s loaner binoculars, please let Maureen know by Monday, November 24.

Spotting scopes welcome and appreciated.

Limit: 10 Participants Max

Meet at Arrowhead Marsh at MLK Regional Shoreline, at the end of the entrance road off Swan Way. (Come in from Hegenberger Road off I-880, head towards the Oakland Airport, turn right on Doolittle, then right on Swan Way for a short distance and left into the park.)

Trip will be cancelled if there is  heavy or steady rain. If the weather if iffy, you’re welcome to text or call the leader early on Saturday morning.
