Arrowhead Marsh, MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline (Alameda)
Description
Leaders: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, 510.484.6529
Date: Sunday December 28 -- 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Description: Low tide of 1.94 feet around noon will give us lots of exposed mudflat, a smorgasbord for shorebirds and a good time to look for elusive rails, including the endangered Ridgway’s Rail. Wintering ducks abound, including the teal trifecta (Green-winged, Cinnamon, and Blue-winged) and Common Goldeneyes.
Lots of stationary observing, less than half a mile of walking on paved, level trails.
There are restrooms and a few benches for people who want to take a break.
Trip will be cancelled if there is heavy or steady rain. You’re welcome to call the leader on Sunday morning if the weather is iffy.
Trip Size: 20 participants max
From I-880, take Hegenberger towards the Oakland Airport. Turn right at Pardee Road, left on Swan Way, and then a right turn into the park just past the warehouses. Drive to the large parking lot at the end.
