Accessibility

Distance: Roadside birding plus 3-mile round-trip hike to the sage grouse lek

Trail Type:  Access to the sage grouse lek involves a 3-mile hike in the dark up a very rutted jeep road with a few hundred feet of elevation gain, topping out at about 4,700 ft. in elevation. It involves some cross-country walking over a stony old lava field and a stream crossing. If conditions are muddy, the walk up the hill can be treacherous. Weather can range from balmy to frigid. If you have a heart or respiratory condition or mobility limitations, it would be prudent to forego the lek visit.

Facilities: Minimal to non-existent
