Description: Why go all way to Bodega Bay?  To see loons close up – Common, Pacific, and Red-throated all possible. To see Brant, the sea geese that winter here.  To see Double-crested, Brandt’s and Pelagic cormorants side-by-side to strengthen your ID skills.  This is a great place for birders of all levels and birders new to the Bay Area.

We’ll meet at 9:30 am at the Tides Wharf and Restaurant, outside on the observation deck.
(It’s on the shore side opposite the Inn at the Tides, 800 Highway 1) There are restrooms here.

Be prepared for variable weather. Bring lunch, snacks, and liquids. There are pit toilets at Bodega Head, Campbell Cove, and Porto Bodega Marina.

The itinerary for this trip is determined by the tides. After the observation deck at the Tides Wharf, we’ll head for Bodega Head and seawatch from the bluff top, visit the Hole in the Head and Campbell Cove at the base of the hill, then along the Westshore Road. Finally, we’ll stop at Porto Bodega Marina. There is very little walking and no elevation change.

Trip will go even if there’s intermittent or light rain in the forecast.

More information and maps will be sent to those who register.

Limit: 18

Directions: Take US 101 north to Petaluma. Exit at Washington and head SW. Washington becomes Bodega Ave, which becomes Petaluma-Valley Ford Road, which eventually merges into CA Hwy 1. Take Hwy 1 to Bodega Bay.
